What Our Customers Say About Us

The SafeGauge products are a great addition to our tooling inventory. Tooling that removes personnel from the footprint of the machine. It makes the technician's job easier. Dial indicators, again, remove personnel from the footprint of the machine. Eliminates technicians from crush/pinch points.

This tooling has almost halved our workload during live testing and the lads love it as it is a lot more user-friendly than the previous tooling we had. Since then, we’ve purchased another kit after the first one we bought. We highly recommend SafeGauge to others for tooling purchases as the tooling is simple, robust, and user-friendly.

This transducer kit is brilliant! Absolutely better than the other one we have; it was raining the day we completed a transmission test on the 793F. We fitted the transducers and sat in the cab, completed the test quickly and very easily, thanks to the new kit.

Just wanted to say thanks for lending us the latest testing kit for the trial on DT5304. Feedback from the team is that it works well and does what it's meant to do. The transducers have good range. The only request is for some extra transducers in the kit as we have already discussed.

We now have the SafeGauge Dial Indicator units on-site, and they’re an absolute pleasure to use. We look forward to incorporating this new technology into our existing servicing procedures.

We have mandated SafeGauge Pressure Transducers across our entire site and banned regular pressure gauges entirely. SafeGauge products have made our maintenance procedures significantly safer by entirely removing our techs from exposure to high-risk areas. The implementation has reduced the time it takes to do our regular checks by at least 50%.

Frequently Asked
Questions

What does the SafeGauge Laser Displacement Sensor measure?

The SafeGauge Laser Displacement Sensor measures displacement and movement using a non-contact laser. It is designed for applications where traditional contact sensors cannot fit or are impractical, such as slew bearing checks.

How accurate is the SafeGauge Laser Displacement Sensor?

The SafeGauge Laser Displacement Sensor measures displacement with an accuracy of ±0.1 mm (±0.0039 in).

How far does the laser need to be from the surface being measured?

For accurate readings, the Laser Displacement Sensor must be positioned 30–60 mm (1.18–2.36 in) from the surface being measured.

Is the Laser Displacement Sensor a contact or non-contact tool?

The SafeGauge Laser Displacement Sensor is a non-contact measurement tool, using a laser to measure movement without physically touching the surface.

How long does the Laser Displacement Sensor operate on a full charge?

When fully charged, the SafeGauge Laser Displacement Sensor operates for up to 6 hours.

How long does it take to charge the Laser Displacement Sensor?

The Laser Displacement Sensor takes approximately 4 hours to fully charge from zero.

When should a Laser Displacement Sensor vs a Dial Indicator or Push Rod be used?

All three sensors measure displacement, but they are suited to different applications based on how and where the movement occurs.

The Dial Indicator and Laser Displacement Sensor function in a similar way, with the key difference being how the measurement is taken. The Dial Indicator uses a contact pin that touches the surface being measured, while the Laser Displacement Sensor uses a non-contact laser.

The Laser Displacement Sensor was designed for applications such as slew bearing checks and movement checks where a Dial Indicator does not fit. It has a larger measurement range (30 mm) compared to the Dial Indicator (10 mm), but a lower accuracy (0.1 mm vs 0.01 mm). The Laser Displacement Sensor must be positioned 30–60 mm from the surface being measured.

In contrast, the Push Rod is designed to measure linear movement where it can be mounted parallel to the direction of movement. It uses a dual magnetic mounting solution to create a stable base for linear measurement, providing consistent precise readings. This device cannot be used to measure movement in locations where it cannot be mounted parallel.

What is the ingress protection (IP) rating of the Laser Displacement Sensor?

The SafeGauge Laser Displacement Sensor has an IP67 rating, making it resistant to dust ingress and protected against temporary immersion in water.

How is the Laser Displacement Sensor mounted?

The laser enclosure includes both M6 × 1 and 1/4-20 thread types, providing flexible mounting options across a wide range of applications.

What is the SafeGauge Laser Displacement Sensor commonly used for?

The SafeGauge Laser Displacement Sensor is commonly used for non-contact displacement measurement in applications such as:

- Excavator swing (slew) bearing deflection
- Engine mount wear measurement
- Runout measurement on spinning components

It is ideal where contact measurement is not possible or practical.
