Push Rod

The SafeGauge Push Rod provides technicians with a way to get displacement measurements quickly and safely between two fixed points.

Designed for measuring ball joints, lateral movement in pins and bearings, and other applications where a Dial Indicator is less suited.

The versatile articulating magnetic mount allows for rapid setup time and flexibility in mounting locations.

Simply place the sensor across the measured points, zero the sensor and watch as accurate data streams into the MultiTool Pro.

Rubber-coated magnets securely fix the Push Rod to machinery while reducing vibration during dynamic testing. For curved or cylindrical surfaces, the magnetically attached V-Block provides a stable, reliable mounting point, ensuring accurate measurements even in demanding environments.

What Our Customers Say About Us

This transducer kit is brilliant! Absolutely better than the other one we have; it was raining the day we completed a transmission test on the 793F. We fitted the transducers and sat in the cab, completed the test quickly and very easily, thanks to the new kit.

This tooling has almost halved our workload during live testing and the lads love it as it is a lot more user-friendly than the previous tooling we had. Since then, we’ve purchased another kit after the first one we bought. We highly recommend SafeGauge to others for tooling purchases as the tooling is simple, robust, and user-friendly.

We now have the SafeGauge Dial Indicator units on-site, and they’re an absolute pleasure to use. We look forward to incorporating this new technology into our existing servicing procedures.

The SafeGauge products are a great addition to our tooling inventory. Tooling that removes personnel from the footprint of the machine. It makes the technician's job easier. Dial indicators, again, remove personnel from the footprint of the machine. Eliminates technicians from crush/pinch points.

Just wanted to say thanks for lending us the latest testing kit for the trial on DT5304. Feedback from the team is that it works well and does what it's meant to do. The transducers have good range. The only request is for some extra transducers in the kit as we have already discussed.

We have mandated SafeGauge Pressure Transducers across our entire site and banned regular pressure gauges entirely. SafeGauge products have made our maintenance procedures significantly safer by entirely removing our techs from exposure to high-risk areas. The implementation has reduced the time it takes to do our regular checks by at least 50%.

Frequently Asked
Questions

What is the SafeGauge Push Rod commonly used for?

The SafeGauge Push Rod is commonly used for:

  • Off-highway truck steering linkage (ball stud) movement
  • Nose cone and other mount wear measurement
  • Implement pin wear measurement across all machine types

How accurate is the SafeGauge Push Rod?

The SafeGauge Push Rod measures displacement with an accuracy of ±0.5% of full scale.

This equates to:

  • ±0.05 mm (0.002 in) over 10 mm (0.4 in) of travel
  • ±0.25 mm (0.01 in) over the full measurement range

How long does the SafeGauge Push Rod operate on a full charge?

The SafeGauge Push Rod provides over 200 hours of operating time, making it well suited for extended field and workshop use without frequent recharging.

How is the SafeGauge Push Rod mounted?

The Push Rod offers flexible mounting options to suit a wide range of applications:

  • Magnetic mounting plates on the transmitter box and each end of the sensor
  • Fixes to any metal surface containing iron
  • Optional V-Blocks available for mounting on curved surfaces

How many Push Rods or other SafeGauge tools can be connected at once?

The number of connected sensors depends on the device being used:

  • MultiTool Pro: up to 12 sensors
  • Wireless MultiTool: up to 7 sensors
  • Mobile App: up to 2 sensors

When should a Push Rod be used compared to a Dial Indicator or Laser Displacement Sensor?

While all three tools measure displacement, each is designed for specific measurement scenarios depending on how the movement occurs and how the sensor can be mounted.

The Dial Indicator and Laser Displacement Sensor operate in a similar way, with the main difference being contact versus non-contact measurement. A Dial Indicator measures movement using a physical contact pin, whereas the Laser Displacement Sensor uses a laser and must be positioned 30–60 mm from the target surface. The Laser Displacement Sensor offers a greater measurement range of 30 mm compared to the Dial Indicator’s 10 mm, but with lower accuracy at 0.1 mm versus 0.01 mm. It is commonly used for applications such as slew bearing checks or movement measurements where a Dial Indicator cannot be physically fitted.

The Push Rod, however, is intended for measuring linear movement where the sensor can be mounted parallel to the direction of travel. Using a dual magnetic mounting system, it provides a stable setup for capturing consistent, precise linear measurements. It is not suitable for applications where parallel mounting is not possible.
